Interview: Cherrywood (Beat)

The only way for punk-inspired country band Cherrywood is up. Drummer Chris Drane used to clean toilets at the Corner Hotel, and now he's sweeping up friends from all corners of Australia. Cherrywood is a bit of a head scratcher. They've written scarring acoustic tunes about Pentridge Prison, throbbing heads and bleeding hearts with hands as calloused as stockmen. But how do you figure a country band from Melbourne? -

See how it figures here.

Review: Regurgitator - Dirty Pop Fantasy (Beat)

About 15 years ago, satirical news source The Onion warned we may be running out of past to recycle. With artists like Lana Del Rey and Mumford and Sons in the mainstream, The Onion was right. What's offered is oh-so-serious rehash, seemingly forgoing fun when exalting kitsch.

Regurgitator didn't forget. This record is Ben Ely and Quan Yeomans' wild laboratory of pop music that almost was, unconstrained by coked-up label execs or A&R fluffers.

Articles: Hysteria Magazine #17 (August/September)

I went to Ferntree Gully for this mag. Ferntree Gully. It's a blip on a dot forgotten by dental hygeine and happiness. I saw Bleeding Through there. Hanged with Marta Peterson, who beat me at pool. (On points.) My girlfriend didn't approve of that, but she sure as shit didn't mind my gawking at a near-nude Boris the Blade baring their tattoos. DOUBLE STANDARD MUCH?

As for interviews I upset the legendary Jeff Walker of Carcass, talked BJs with Nile's Karl Sanders and boogied with Elvis and Lucifer via Watain. There's whole lotta other mystical trippy shit in as well. What is it? You'll have to read to find out.
